What is FSSAI Registration / License?

FSSAI stands for Food Safety and Standards Authority of India which is an organization that monitors and governs the food business in India. Every food business operator involved in the manufacturing, processing, storage distribution and sale of food products must compulsorily obtain FSSAI Registration or License.
It is a 14-digit registration or a license number which is printed on all the food packages. The 14 digit registration number gives details about the assembling state, producer’s permit. FSSAI registration or license is based on the business volume and premises. Depending upon the installed capacity or turnover or location, applicant premises are eligible for the license such as basic license, central license, and state license.

Types of FSSAI License-

1. State FSSAI License
2. Central FSSAI License

Procedure to obtain FSSAI Registration:

1. FSSAI registration is initiated by submitting Form A (application) to the Food and Safety Department.
2. This application can be accepted or it may be rejected by the Department within 7 days from the date of receipt of an application and the rejection has to be intimated to the applicant in writing
3. If the application is accepted, then the department will grant a registration certificate with the registration number and the photo of the applicant.
4. FBO should prominently display the certificate of registration at the place of business during the business hours.

Procedure to obtain FSSAI License:

1. FSSAI License is initiated by submitting Form B (application) duly completed and signed to the Food and Safety Department.
2. If the application is accepted, then the department will grant a License certificate with the License number and the photo of the applicant.
3. FBO should prominently display the License at the place of business during the business hours.

Documents required for FSSAI Registration:

1. Address proof (Aadhar Card)
2. List of food category
3. NOC from municipality
4. Proof of possession of premises (Rental Agreement / Utility Bill) not older than 2 months
5. Incorporation certificate (In case of Company)
6. List of directors/partners (In case of Company)
7. MOA and AOA (In case of Company)
8. Water test report
9. Photo of Food Business Operator
10. Declaration Form

Documents required for State FSSAI License:

1. Layout Plan of the processing unit showing the dimensions and operation-wise area allocation
2. List of Directors/ Partners/ Proprietor with address, contact details, and photo ID
3. Name and list of equipment and machinery used with the number and installed capacity
4. Photo ID and address proof issued by Government Authority of proprietor/ Partner/Director/Authorised Signatory.

5. List of food category to be manufactured
6. Authority letter from manufacturer nominated a responsible person name and address
7. Analysis report of water to be used in the process to confirm the portability
8. Proof of possession of premises (Sale deed/ Rent agreement/ Electricity bill)
9. Partnership deed/ affidavit of proprietorship
10. NOC and copy of License from the manufacturer
11. Copy of certificate obtained under Cooperative Act 1861/Multi state Cooperative Act 2002
12. Food safety management system plan or certificate
13. Source of raw material for milk, meat etc in case of Milk/Meat and Milk/Meat Processing units.
14. NOC from Municipality or Local Body
15. Declaration Form
16. Form IX: Nomination of person by Company along with Board Resolution
17. Certificate by Ministry of Tourism (In case of Hotel only)
18. Self -Declaration of number of vehicles (Only for transporters)

Documents required for Central FSSAI License:

1. Layout Plan of the processing unit showing the dimensions and operation-wise area allocation
2. List of Directors/ Partners/ Proprietor with address, contact details, and photo ID
3. Name and list of equipment and machinery used with the number and installed capacity
4. Photo ID and address proof issued by Government Authority of proprietor/ Partner/Director/Authorised Signatory.
5. List of food category to be manufactured
